Hi there!
So we've started :)
And we wanted to share with you our impressions so far.
1. Couchsurfing is awesome. We spent less than 24 hours in London, we didn't do anything you usually do there, we didn't even go through the city center and we had a great time.
2. Did you know? The second most common language spoken in Britain is Polish, with a community of 600,000. We stayed with a local family who've lived here for 10 years and don't really have an English friend.
3. The best tip we've gotten so far was form Itamar. "Don't miss you first flight, because if you do you'll lose the entire round-the-world ticket". Now *that* would have been an amazing and horrible way to finish the trip.
4. We're in love with Singapore Airlines. We've never been pampered like this on a flight before, they were amazing.
5. If Israel is a "Villa in the jungle", then Singapore is a high-tech office in the middle of a tropical forest. Douglas Adams wrote that there is a good reason no language has the phrase "pretty as an airport", but he probably never landed here and walked around amongst huge glass walls wrapped by ferns and palm trees.
(Cliché complaint about the high cost of living in Israel: in Singapore you can buy toast, two fried eggs and a cup of coffee for less than 14 shekels! In the *airport*!)
(Update: In town it costs less than 6 shekels. But the drawing is of fried eggs and you actually get them boiled. And they're not really ready)
6. We don't think we've digested the fact we're traveling yet. Maybe it's the long flights or the fact Eli's still writing his seminary paper, but we really don't have the itch to take pictures, for example. On the other hand, we've never enjoyed riding buses and waiting in line so much. It's fun to just be on the way somewhere, absorbing the environment, with no reception, no book and no worries.
7. We were happy to hear Tom Shadmi is OFFICIALLY AMAZING. We've never thought otherwise.
8. And finally, a short clip summarizing the first few days:
